Goodwin & Goodwin is certified for BS EN 1090 Execution Class 2 for Residential or Commercial structures, very few sign companies hold this certification and are not able to carry out this type of work in-house. If your organisation is involved in the manufacture of structural metal components you now need to demonstrate that your products comply with BS EN 1090 as well as prove product conformance through mandatory UKCA marking. UKCA marking to BS EN 1090 is a legal requirement for steel and aluminium structures in buildings.
BS EN 1090 is typically required for large structural steel work such as freestanding totems, large architectural signs, large 3D letters on building, large freestanding signs and entrance canopies.
We follow an internal quality management system that carefully documents each stage of our work, from the design right through manufacture and installation.
Since 01 July 2014 it is a criminal offence to supply and trade structural metalwork on the UK market unless it adheres to this standard and carries a legitimate UKCA mark.
Some examples of the type of products that are coved: balconies, balustrades, canopies, hand rails, racking and shelving systems, stairs etc.
To gain certification and be awarded a UKCA Mark, you are required to undertake the following:
- Initial type-testing of your products
- Factory Production Control which includes:
- Implementation of FPC system procedures
- Appointment of a responsible welding coordinator (RWC)
- Implementation of welding quality management system (WQMS) procedures
- Further testing of samples taken at the factory in accordance with the prescribed test plan
